Centennial Olive Tree No. 815
The centenary olive tree; a grayish evergreen tree with a rounded crown and a sinuous trunk. Widely spread throughout the Mediterranean, where the oldest plantations exist, it receives its centenary title because these specimens, thanks to their slow growth, are capable of living for hundreds of years, remaining robust and firm over time.
The olive tree has represented strength and victory, fidelity and wisdom, immortality and hope, wealth and abundance for thousands of years.
Used by the Egyptians in mummification through ointments in which it was mixed with other essences. This and other curiosities make the olive tree a truly unique tree for its usefulness, symbolism, and mythology throughout different periods of our history.
Today, it is called “THE TREE OF PEACE” and is found in many gardens and homes around the world, forming a part of our daily lives.
A tree truly appreciated both for its aesthetic value and for its cultivation of olives, which are used for the production of olive oil, the so-called “liquid gold,” a highly prized ingredient used in Mediterranean cuisine, especially, and throughout the world for several decades now.
A leafy, slow-growing tree that rarely exceeds 10 m in height, it is characterized by being a very long-lived tree with a great capacity for regeneration, sometimes appearing twisted.
The olive tree is a fruit tree of the Oleaceae family. Centennial olive trees are truly renowned for their resilience to harsh conditions. They are trees that withstand severe droughts and have adapted to live in truly extreme climates (drought, cold, and wind). They also have excellent resistance to sunlight, making them capable of sprouting even through difficult seasons if properly treated.
Care:
Pruning: There are two types:
Training to shape the canopy.
Training to shape the canopy or “clouds” of Japanese-style bonsai olive trees.
Watering: It doesn’t require much water; it’s a very hardy tree, but it also depends on the type of soil, its drainage, the season, and the size of the canopy. A very large tree will require more water. This tree should be exposed to full sun, but also adapts to semi-shade.
