They are tree-like plants with a thick, branched trunk that can reach over 10 meters in height. The leaves have an attractive bluish-green color. The yellowish flowers have no decorative purpose and appear in large clusters above the foliage. They bloom in spring. Finally, they produce spherical fruits that are initially green and then orange.
They are very slow-growing plants that are used as individual specimens, in rock gardens in groups of a few specimens or in pots for greenhouses, patios and terraces.
The Canary Islands dragon tree thrives in both full sun and partial shade. Although it can withstand temperatures of 0°C, it is better not to expose it to temperatures lower than 5°C; In winter it prefers a resting period at around 8-10 ºC.
A good soil could be a mixture of well-rotted leaf mulch, garden soil and coarse sand. Transplanting is done in spring with the greatest care as the roots are very sensitive.
Always water moderately and wait until the soil is dry or almost dry before watering again. In summer, when it is very hot, watering is usually done around 2-3 times a week.
They benefit from a light compost-based fertilization in early spring.
